Supply and Demand

LI: to balance supply and demand for a profit.
We played a game, it was about to balance supply and demand. We had 14 days to make as much money as possible. We ran our own coffee shop and could change how our recipe is made. We would see our status for our reputation,how much money we made, we took photos of our status at the end each day.

Foodprint

LI : To about business and footprint and their goal 

michael is the proud owner of foodprint. If you don't know what foodprint is, food print is environmentally friendly its goal is to solve the food waste problem in auckland and the entire world. Food is need for people to live but there are problems with how the food is produced because some countries are not able to make food or keep up with the production of food.

Countries around the world usually overproduce food. One third of food we produce is wasted, 1.3 billion tonnes of food that are fresh and still good, are sent to landfills to rot. The goal of foodprint to reduce food waste around the world. For example 20 million loaves of bread in new zealand is wasted in a single year. Food print is to make it easier for people to buy food and not let it go to waste, it is only available in auckland right now but there are 250 cafes/shops. This app took 2 years worth of planning and it was launched 6 months ago.

LI- What is Supply and Demand

this week was mostly about research. We had to research four things and what it means, they are supply,demand,price & quantity and equilibrium. We then had to find images to show an example of what each word means.

Companies | Business

LI : What is a business
We first got in groups of eight, we would have to sort out where a business would go/categorise as. For example let's say there's a restaurant called KFC it would be categorized under the food category. The category our groups had are in the top images, there were more but we didn't get enough time. Our goal for the inquiry session was to sort out as many companies in where we think they go.

Inquiry | Rube goldberg machine

LI : To make a Rube Goldberg machine to complete a challenge

The challenge for our Rube Goldberg machine was to turn on a computer without using our hands (Rube Goldberg did not make the simple machines he used the simple machines). This challenge went on for a few weeks the video is our final results

We used 4/6 simple machines, we used the inclined planes to help travel a marble and car, then a wheel and axle (which is the car) we used it to hit someone so they can do an action. Next was the pulley that had a block attached with it, the block would the hit the power button which will then turn on the computer. The last simple machine we used was the lever (dominos) which will hit me to then make me to turn on the pulley.

We made the inclined planes out of a meter ruler, The wheel and axle or car was just a small hot wheel car. The pulley which was the hardest to create The pulley had weighing bars taped together facing horizontally, Then a string wrapped around to hold the block with a enough string left to make the pulley go up and down. And the dominos was already in the classroom so we did not need to make it 

The hardest part of the challenge was testing it over and over again until its right and also making the pulley, because one of our group mates did not make the pulley so we had to make one with class materials. 

Screw / inquiry

LI : To learn about simple machines (the screw)
The Archimedes screw is what we were learning about in inquiry. We did a test on trying to make on how we could make an Archimedes screw. We had a tube and a long stick and a bucket full of water, an Archimedes helps water travel from the bottom travel to the top. (using the tubes)

When we did this test we then had to fill in a google drawing explaining what a Archimedes screw is with questions about the test we did. (there were also videos explain what a Archimedes screw is)

Pulley | Inquiry

LI : To learn about simple machines
A pulley is a rope passing through a wheel to lift something, We all first did a test with two people who had a stick well someone was in the middle they had to try grab the stick well the two people hold them, this would take alot of effort. Then we used rope and looped it and it made it so you need less effort to pull that is called a pulley. We watched 2 videos explaining pulleys so we could fill out a google drawing with question. If we added more loops we would need more ropes to get the same effect.

Incline plane | inquriy

LI : To learn about and build an incline plane.
An incline plane makes it easy to pull objects up. I had a partner and we watched 2 videos explaining what an incline plane is and how they worked. We had a toy car to test the different ramps to see if the ramp more better close up or more better further. Me and my partner then had to fill in a google drawing explaining what a incline plane is.
